After John Abraham, Lara Dutta, Arjun Rampal, Mandira Bedi (a vegetarian for over 20 years now) and countless other celebrities, it’s Mallika Sherawat’s turn to state that her body and hair stay in shape due to her strict vegetarian diet, her regular yoga sessions and being happy.
Delhi Belly star Poorna Jagannathan is the latest Bollywood celebrity to join hands with the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA). The 38-year-old actress, who is a vegetarian, will feature in an advertisement that will show the benefits of eating only vegetables.
“I believe in conscious and kinder eating – I don’t want to eat anything that had to suffer brutally to end up on my plate,” she says.
Delhi-based Dr Rashmi Chanana says, “A vegetarian diet equals a healthier diet: we are less at risk for obesity, cancer, high blood pressure and many more life-threatening diseases.”
She adds, “Vegetarian food is good for longevity, strength and purity of both mind and body and falls under the category of saatvik food.”
According to a media report, actress Lara Dutta said, “Being a vegetarian, I make sure I eat enough raw fruits and vegetables, take in good quality vegetable protein, drink lots of water and meditate frequently. A combination of healthy eating and sensible exercising helps keep me looking and feeling great!”
Today, an increasing number of people are turning towards a vegetarian diet. The reasons range from the environmental, cruelty towards animals, to just the desire for a healthier lifestyle.
“One should adopt a holistic approach towards health and food, with lots of exercise and a diet rich in fruits and organic vegetables. I recommend a vegetarian diet,” adds Sonika Chauhan, a Kolkata-based model.
While many celebrities are going green, some find a non-vegetarian diet satiating.
Neha Panda, a fashion stylist eats meat, desserts and considers a non-vegetarian diet a rich source of proteins and other vital minerals needed for a healthy body.
