Golden hues define life
Though she wanted to be a choreographer, the vibrancy of colours embraced her into the world of art. It’s a dream come true for 22-year-old Kanika Singh, as she excitedly hosted her debut art show of paintings titled ‘Kanak’ at India Habitat Centre recently.
The title of the exhibhition stands for the origin of her name, meaning gold, thus reflecting her sincerity and passion with which she turns her work into gold. “The show displayed 25 of my paintings including extensive portraits of rural Indian women, men, Buddha, Ganesha, etc. My paintings cover a rich array of abstract, realistic, psychedelic and human emotions,” she adds.
Started her stint as a painter from the age of five, Kanika completed her seven-year course in fine art from Bangiya Sangeet Parishad, an art school affiliated to Rabindra Bharati University, Calcutta. With oil paintings her forte, Kanika loves to travel and the popular things and colours of that place often inspire her canvas. “When I went to Jaipur, I was fascinated by the snake charmers and decided to paint them. Similarly I painted Golden Gate from my trip to San Francisco,” she shares adding that she would love to do a series of painting on popular monuments of Delhi soon.
An an admirer of works of artists Partha Bhattcharya and Chitra Singh, art for Kanika is to give wings to her imaginations and express them in her paintings.
