Gorgeous girls
Model-actress Lisa Haydon’s sister Malika Haydon is one half of the DJ duo, The Electroverts, (the other half is her best friend Nina Shah), which produces progressive house and electronic music. The girls have played gigs around the country as well as in Dubai, Australia and UK and were recently seen raising the temperature in Delhi with their thunderous music and glamour quotient at a recent gig at Cafe Ludus.
When asked about the equation the glam sisters share, DJ and Kingfisher model Malika says, “Once we are back home, we don’t discuss work. Of course we’re there for each other whenever we need, but that’s about it. We are not running a race to be insecure about each other’s work. We are happy in our own space. We are like any other sisters. We fight at times, but mostly we share a good rapport.”
Malika made her Bollywood debut with the item number I’ll do the talking in action-spy movie Agent Vinod, starring Saif Ali Khan. Whether it’s those mean dance moves or the serious white shirt and pencil skirt combo with a pout, for all of the ten minutes Malika appears in the film, the buxom Indo-Aussie model-cum-item-girl-cum-DJ grabbed eyeballs. “My character was that of a security personnel who is up against Saif Ali Khan, trying to trace his whereabouts,” she says.
Sharing her experience of working with Saif, Malika says, “He is very chilled out and he ensured that I felt comfortable, as it was my first stint in front of the camera. It helped that the songs were very much the kind I produce and have been dancing to since I was a kid.”
Malika is no wide-eyed Bollywood starlet in the making. Nor does she have any carefully laid out plans for a Bollywood career. “Acting is interesting, but I’ve not thought about it. As of now I want to stick to my first love, music, till the right opportunity knocks on my door. I have not yet thought about venturing into mainstream Bollywood commercial music. I also love dancing and I am trained in ballet and jazz.”
Malika absolutely loved being in Delhi for her musical performance. She says, “Delhi is an awesome city. We have lots of friends and family members here, so it almost feels like home. Delhi audience is very warm, welcoming and open to different kinds of music.”
Talking about her band, the Electroverts, Malika says, “Nina Shah and I are practically like sisters. Music and dance have been our passion since childhood and we eventually evolved into DJ and music producers. Our mothers came to India years ago, fell in love with it and decided to never leave. This is how our musical journey began and we hope to continue it further,” shares Malika.
