Happy ‘Diva’li
The social calendar has a definite fixture this season — a visit to the beautician. No harm. But why not craft your perfect look yourself? The joys of experimenting with colour, crèmes and wavy tresses need to be experienced to be believed.
Make-up matters
Metallics, that have been a hot trend through the year, are once again surging in terms of popularity. “The fact is that metallics go very well with the Indian skin tone and also the outfits worn during Diwali. Since these shades are quite bold, one can rely on minimal but clever strokes to highlight their skin tone. Another hot trend is ‘focus make-up’ which allows you to emphasise on just one aspect of your face, like for example, if you’re wearing an elaborate outfit, you need to concentrate on the eye make-up because this helps to perk up the look. Think Aishwarya Rai’s bold, smokey eyes when she walked the ramp for Manish Malhotra recently or even Konkona Sen Sharma during the international jewellery week,” explains Leslie Xavier, a make-up artiste.
Stock up on essentials like kohl, a neutral shade of blush, lip tint and a translucent powder, advice experts. “These are things that never go out of style and all you need to do is add a touch of shimmer and you’re set,” adds Vinita Mahaan, a stylist. “Statement jewellery is also very in this season, so do your make-up accordingly — like if you’re wearing fabulous chandelier earrings then use a rosy blush and add some shimmer to your neck. Use a dusting of shimmer powder on your arms if you are wearing short sleeves or an intricate bracelet or kada.”
Mane highlight
Since there is a lot of humidity during this season, hairstylists say that going in for a fuss-free style is the best option. “Opt for a sleek ponytail or even a bun. You can accesorise this as you like depending on the occasion. If you’re heading for a party, you can also wear your hair in soft curls or waves as this complements traditional outfits very well. Think Rani Mukherjee during this year’s Durga puja. To counter humidity, use a mousse that will hold the style in place, avoid using heat treatments for your hair because this can make it very greasy after some time,” says Neha Bhutalia, a hairstylist and technician.
