Head-banging with pets

They say that music appeals to all and sundry, and it shouldn’t surprise you if at the next music concert you attend you end up head-banging with pets and pooches in the crowd. If all goes well you can take your dogs to capital’s first pet-friendly music concert on October 13 and 14 at the Bacardi NH7 weekender.

In order to de-sensitise the animals for the upcoming concert, a pre-party for dogs and their owners was organsied by Party Barky Hai, a specialised canine events company. The pet lovers gathered and enjoyed the games and music with their four-legged friends. Vikram Puri, who bought his labrador, Stanley and cocker spaniel Markus at the event, says, “I own six dogs and I think they are keen music lovers. They are used to loud music and I won’t mind taking them with me to the concert. At home, I play guitar for them. I feel they are my best audience.”
Ravi Singh, owner of a year-and-a-half-old South African mastiff Hooch, feels that music is good for his dog as it will calm him down. He says, “I want my dog to get used to loud noises so that he doesn’t feel uneasy with cracker bursting sounds during Diwali. He is almost 70 kg and it gets really difficult to control him when he gets annoyed. Exposure to such concerts will help him get more social.”
Shivani Mathur and Ragani Parmar, certified canine behaviourists and trainers and founders of Party Barky Hai, feel that it is important to integrate dogs in their owners’ lives. Shivani says, “We are creating a special dog-zone at the concert where pet owners can chill with their dogs and enjoy the music event. It will help them bond with their dogs and see how their dogs react to sounds. This designated area will also host special stalls related to doggy toys and pet grooming.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
