Heady high of a love anthem
After years of struggle, Bollywood music director and singer Ankit Tiwari created his success story with the latest love anthem of the year, Sun Raha Hai Na Tu from Aashiqui 2. We caught up with the singer who has also sung the theme song of the recently concluded Star Parivaar Awards 2013. The theme song is a cover of Mohammed Rafi’s famous number Tum jo mil gaye ho and features a duet between Tiwari and Sunidhi Chauhan.
Tiwari said, “Rafi’s soulful voice is unmatchable and I have not tried to imitate it in the song, but I am glad the audience appreciated it. It was a challenging task, but one should have that ‘inner calling’ and dedication towards singing.”
Talking about his background, the singer said, “I grew up in a musically-inclined family. My father has a music troupe of his own while my mother is a devotional singer.”
The singer made his Bollywood debut with Habib Faisal’s Do Dooni Char. “Tigmanshu Dhulia provided me a golden opportunity to compose the title track for Saheb, Biwi aur Gangster, which escalated my career as a music composer,” says Tiwari.
“It is impossible for a playback singer to sing all the songs of a particular movie today and moreover, the audience is too demanding. Earlier, a singer used to sing for a particular actor like Mukesh was the voice of Raj Kapoor. If given an opportunity, I would like to sing for Shah Rukh Khan and Ranbir Kapoor,” shares Tiwari.
