Heal through forms of art
Art therapy is gaining popularity among the youth and if you want to experience the beauty you can attend a multi-arts festival at Kamani Auditorium on May 16 and find out yourself. The two-day International Ancient Arts Festival will highlight the therapeutic role of art forms such as dance, music and their relevance in relieving stress in daily life.
International artists and scholars from countries such as China, Iran and the USA will participate in the festival. Says Reela Hota, Odissi dancer and the director of the festival, “We aim to bring together the modern and traditional, scholars and artists to demonstrate scientific basis of traditional arts and their integration in our daily lives. Also a symposium will highlight the connection between science, spirituality and the ancient performing arts, as scholars attempt to educate while entertaining.”
The international symposium-cum- festival will showcase how dance can help achieve a more balanced lifestyle. “Dance as a therapy has been effectively used to treat mental and psychological problems including cerebral palsy,” adds Hota.
The festival will have traditional dance forms and also highlight the spiritual significance of Rabindranath Tagore’s poems and will include Odissi (Reela Hota), Gaudiya Nritya (Gaudiya Nritya Bharati) and Pung Cholom and Ras Leela (Prem Manipur Cultural association).
