Hiatus pumps up creativity
Shiamak Davar, singer and choreographer, has returned to singing with his music album Shabop after more than a decade. Shiamak, who is all excited about his third album, said that this good break added freshness to his music. But does taking a break help one rejuvenate creativity?
“I like to take a break whenever I feel creatively worn out. Back to back fashion weeks can be draining and repetitive,” feels fashion designer Rohit Mittal. So, whenever work gets monotonous for Rohit, he stops designing for a while. His breaks vary from three months to about a year. However, he also insists that it’s not possible to be completely cut off from his industry. “I need to remain updated with the changing styles and trends. Therefore, I make sure that I follow what other designers in India and abroad are working on,” adds Rohit.
Gopi Gajwani, an artist, likes to move away from painting and try his hand at other mediums before returning to his canvas. “Around the end of last year, I tried filmmaking which has broadened my perspective,” says an excited Gopi.
Taking breaks is what keeps puppeteer Dadi Padamjee innovative in his approach. “A break can help you think afresh, come up with new ideas and return to your work with interesting innovations. Creative people can’t afford to be repetitive. Therefore, a break from work might just do the trick,” he says.
