High on bromance
He became the nation’s darling with his first film, where he acted and crooned a lovely love ballad that he had composed as well. After exactly a year, actor Ayushmann Khurrana is back with his second project, a romantic comedy, along with Delhi Belly funnyman, Kunal Roy Kapoor, in Nautanki Saala, directed by Rohan Sippy.
Dressed casually in a bright orange T-shirt and jeans, the actor was in the city along with the director and Kunal to promote the film at various locations in the city. We caught up with him at Pacific Mall, Tagore Garden.
“I play a theatre actor, Ram Parmar, who happens to meet a lonely soul, Mandar Lele (played by Kapoor) and we strike a great friendship. Soon both get involved in a comedy of errors and what unfolds is a real-life drama,” says Ayushmann. Getting to play an interesting character that borders on the lines of grey, he is quite optimistic about Nautanki Saala.
Ayushmann has sung two tracks for the film, Saddi Gali Aaja and Tu Hi Tu. The former is already being touted a hit. Talking about his singing, the actor puts forth, “I hope everybody will enjoy the songs as much as much as they liked my earlier song. Singing and composing are both my passions and I am thankful that I am getting a chance to pursue them in my films along with acting.” As he sang a few lines from the song, the crowd, that had gathered to catch a glimpse of the stars, went berserk.
Kunal Roy Kapoor looked fresh in a clean-shaven look and a leaner avatar, as the actor has managed to shed quite a few kilos. Talking about his role in the film, the comic actor quips, “Yes, you will see me more this time, than my posterior, that was too much visible in Delhi Belly! Also I act in this film and not just eat. My character, Mandar Lele, is a sad and depressed guy. I took it up as a challenge to play the role as I am quite opposite to him in real life.”
Ayushmann adds, “You will see a lot of bromance in the movie as mine and Kunal’s characters share a great rapport on-screen and we struck great bonding off-screen as well.” The two actors also shook a leg with a few lucky girls from the audience on the song Dramebaaz.
Director Rohan Sippy remained a silent spectator throughout the promotional event. Finally on being handed the mike, he said, “The film is a situational comedy and we have tried to create a fun film. Ayushmann and Kunal are both great in the film. I am looking forward to the audience response.” The cast and crew handed over free music CDs of the film to the audience.
