Hip Kate knows how to be on top

She can wear beat up shoes with a thousand dollar gown and look like a million bucks. Kate Moss, the iconic fashion diva is well-known for seeming as if she just threw something on, and yet she looks drop-dead gorgeous. No wonder the 37-year-old stunner has been voted as the best-dressed woman of the decade for her “tousled sexiness”.

The key elements of her carefully styled look “careless chic” has fashion watchers applaud her taste for vintage pieces. Then tons of self-confidence she eludes completes the look. Ace designer Rina Dhaka says that Kate has been constantly reinventing herself. “Her style symbolises the restlessness and recklessness of youth. It’s about breaking up, sorting out and putting yourself together again,” Rina says about the supermodel, who’s often been at the center of many controversies, and at the same time remains one of the most respected fashion icons.
One can’t go about following fashion diktats blindly. And Kate knows how to twist style rules. “It seems that she follows her mood rather than fashion decrees. For her, comfort plays a key role. She won’t go in for revealing a dress with sharp cuts, rather she prefers layering,” says designer Abi or Rahul & Abi.
She often flaunts unbranded vintage ensembles be it motorcycle jackets or saddlebags. Again, she’s not a fashion addict but a trendsetter, adds Abi. “Kate wears a lot of couture, but she never overdoes it,” adds Abi. “You certainly have to put in efforts, yet it shouldn’t look like as if you have taken an entire day to create your look,” adds designer Preeti Chandra.
So, you will see the diva in tights, boots, jackets and quirky accessories. She sticks to classics like blood red lipstick, a black dress or a nice pair of heels, says Preeti. “One can experiment with these and team them up with casuals. Kate is the kind of person who can just walk into a grocery store with her super high sequinned heels, skinny jeans, holding an evening bag and she looks great,” she adds.
Kate prefers to go natural when she’s not modelling. “She keeps her make up and hair very simple. And those who want to follow her, don’t act self-conscious. If you aren’t confident, you won’t seem comfortable with your messy hair, mismatched clothes and jeans paired with formal shoes,” says Ashima Sejpal, a Kate Moss fan.
“With the right attitude, you can pull off just about anything. Don’t bother to look prim and proper. Work on your innate style,” suggests designer Reynu Taandon.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
