History to mythology
Sandalwood star Ramya, loves to read. “While I don’t like reading between shoots, I find time afterwards to get back home and read,” she says. She tells us about three books that are on her reading list right now.
1 Shree Ramayana Mahan-veshanam by M Veerappa Moily — While retaining the essence of the epic, Dr Moily has introduced incidents and facts. Since it is his version, he focuses a lot on the love between Lakshman and Urmila’s along with Sita’s agni pariksha. It’s fascinating to read his version of the age-old tale.
2 A Short History of Nearly Everything by Bill Bryson — This book is more about facts and science but explained in a very witty and humorous way. It’s very interesting to read about natural disasters and the facts behind them which are explained in a very general terms.
3 Istanbul: Memories and the City by Orhan Pamuk — This book is about the history of Istanbul and his growing up there. I have been to Istanbul and I saw the monuments, the blue mosque, etc. through his eyes. The book is very autobiographical and is a great insight in to his life and time there.
