Hot hair this summer
It’s back to basics in men’s hair trends this season. Bengaluru-based Sindhu Narayanan, partner and creative stylist, B:blunt Mini gives you the lowdown on the latest.
“Keep it simple,” is Sindhu’s mantra. “Short hair is ideal so as to keep it off the ears and neck. It doesn’t have to be crew cut short, but the hairline is clippered to make it neater. Square layers give it a well defined top section,” she says.
Depending on your individual style, you can go for the just-rolled-out-of-bed look or the well groomed look. “The parting should be low on the side, with hair slicked down. Sweep it sideways off the face, not forwards onto the face — Think Chuck Bass, not Justin Bieber,” Sindhu advises.
Work with your naturally wavy or curly hair, not against it. “Straightened hair is so passé. It’s a very girly look and this season, it’s all about the manly look,” she says. “Hair should be low maintenance, requiring as little styling as possible. Stay away from products like hair gel which hardens your hair. You can opt for a mousse or spray, but all you need could be a good hydrating conditioner.”
In terms of hair colour, subtle is the keyword. “Don’t go experimental with hair colour as it’s the season for solid browns and chestnuts. If you’re an older man with greys, consider the salt and pepper look,” she suggests.
The stylist also provides some pointers based on the shape of your face. “If you have a full, round face, keep some length at the neck. Going too short at the back can make your face look even fuller,” she explains. “Those with a long oval face can try most looks but avoid elongating your face by building height at the crown,” she adds. As for those with a strong, square jawline, she suggests, “The sleek, side part is perfect for this face shape.”
