Of human bondage
“Man is the only creature that consumes without producing. He doesn’t give milk, he does not lay eggs, he is too weak to pull the plough, and he can’t run fast enough to catch rabbits. Yet he is the lord of all the animals.”— George Orwell’s memorable quote from Animal Farm echoes in one’s mind when we discuss human-animal bondage.
An exhibition, “Animal Welfare” will be entirely dedicated for the welfare of animals. “This exhibition celebrates the vital role that animals play in our lives. We have decided to contribute to the welfare of all animals by giving them importance in the society through the form of art,” says Madhav Monga of Articurate Gallery.
Juxtaposing animals with other animals thereby making for interesting comparisons as well as points of reference, one of the participating artists, Ganesh Das says, “I use animals as metaphorical elements in my works. I try to give voice to the animal kingdom. The innocence of the animals like cows, fishes etc is something that touches my heart. The human-animal bondage is so pure and selfless.”
