I am not scared of success: Anushka

For someone who has been around in the industry for only a few years, Anushka Sharma has made quite an impact. She followed up a stellar debut with Shah Rukh Khan, with equally convincing acts in her later films, proving to the industry that she is no flash in the pan.

She is probably the youngest actress who has worked with the biggest names of the industry. After working with Shah Rukh Khan in two films — Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi and Jab Tak Hai Jaan — she is also working with Aamir Khan in P.K. But right now she is most excited about her next film, Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola with Imran Khan.
She says, “It was a very challenging role right from the start. Bijlee is an attention seeker who likes to do shocking things.” But there were quite a few stumbling blocks for the actress during the making of the film. “After four days of shooting I remember telling Vishal (Bhardwaj) that I may have to quit and I didn’t think I would do justice to the role. It took me a while to get into character,” Anushka says. One reason for that, she says, is because Bijlee is completely opposite to her real persona. “I come from a strictly disciplined army background. Unlike Bijlee, I am not an attention seeker at all,” she laughs.
Anushka seems completely in awe of her director. “He is a bundle of talent — he has knowledge of music, language, literature and above all direction. No sooner did he narrate the story me than I burst out laughing, it was so hilarious,” she says.
“It has been a very memorable year for I was part of a Yash Chopra film. Soon after I was signed on for P.K. and also got a chance to work with the genius of Mr Bhardwaj,” Anushka says. She continues, “I believe the ticket to stardom lies in being able to maintain it. I am not scared of my success.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
