‘I am a stickler for discipline’

She may have been the numero uno among Bollywood actresses in her heydays, but Kajol, who now seems to be keeping the industry at an arm’s length, insists that she is not a “movies” person. She hastens to add, “I do feel a bit embarrassed to say this but I am a complete books person. When I have some time for myself, I’d much rather curl up with a book than watch a movie.” And what kind of books does she like to read? “Anything that doesn’t ‘educate’ me. Fluff, fluff and more fluff. That’s my type. I read books to have fun. I can never get tired of them.”
The last full family filmi outing was The Avengers. “My kids love the film and Ajay came with us too. That was the last time the whole family had stepped out to watch a film together.” But she has managed to watch a few of the recent releases as well. “I watched Satyagraha of course and even Chennai Express. But in general, I don’t like to watch too many films. I am not even aware of the recent releases.”
The superstar mom, however, loves her job as a full-time mommy. The mother of two says, “I am a complete hands-on mother. But I also have a very well trained staff to take care of my children when I am not around. I am also a stickler for discipline,”
Between Ajay and her, Kajol calls herself the stricter parent. “Ajay is an absolute marshmallow when it comes to being a father. Is that surprising?” she says with a chuckle, adding, “He is very indulging and just cannot say no to the kids. But that’s also because he cannot spend enough time with them and he feels bad about that.”
However, there was some news a while ago about hubby Ajay planning a project together. “Yes, we have locked a script but nothing else has been finalised,” she adds.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
