‘I enjoy being a biz-woman’

From an actress to a businesswoman, Shilpa Shetty’s journey has been indeed quite eventful. Her life has been full of surprises. She might have got her first break easily, but sustaining it has been a struggle. Then came her glorious

victory of Big Brother, and her career took off like never before. Cashing in on that victory, the sultry actress ventured into business with IPL and number of other business ventures with husband Raj Kundra.
“It was Raj, who initiated the thought and the process of these ventures,” she says. The actress, who is also a stakeholder in an IPL team, says that it’s tougher being an entrepreneur than an actress. “As a businesswoman, I have the responsibility of the entire show on me, of promoting the product or venture. And I just consider myself fortunate in that sense since I can manage that due to the mass reach an actor has,” she says and adds, “As an actor I’m just a pretty looking employee.”
Considering Shilpa’s career in Bollywood, one couldn’t decipher much from her career plans. She doesn’t know about being ambitious, but likes to keep herself occupied. “I was never the type to sit around and do nothing. I thoroughly enjoy my role as a business woman,” she says.
Professionally, Shilpa might have changed tracks but she hasn’t bid adieu to acting. “I do get offers even now, but right now I want to focus on something different. I’ll do films as and when I have something interesting,” says Shilps. She also rubbishes the ongoing rumours about differences with husband Raj and insists that alls is fine in her world.
Tall, slim and ultra glamorous, Shilpa has always been the original oomph girl. “I think that comes to me naturally, and I have never really had to try hard. Pobably that’s why my style statement appeals to people. It’s never in your face. I never work out overtly. I’ve always believed in moderation. And that’s the beauty of it all,” she says. She chooses to not comment on The Man that has reportedly been shelved. “I’m not the right person to comment on it. The best people to answer this question are the producers,” she says. Giving up has never been her style and that’s why Shilpa Shetty is ambitious, optimist and raring to go.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
