‘I enjoy every performance’

After a successful stint as a judge on the fourth season of celebrity dance reality show Jhalak Dikhla Ja, actress Madhuri Dixit is set to take on the chair once again, in the show’s fifth season. The gorgeous dancing queen will be judging the contestants along with director Karan Johar and star choreographer Remo D’Souza. She believes that each one will bring his or her own sensibilities to the show. “We’re going to be looking at the contestants’ expressions, body language and over all personality. But most importantly, we are going to watch out for how much fun they’re having while in the act. Any performance, if done whole heartedly, is a delight to watch,” she says.
A dancer herself, Madhuri has made it a point to continue with her riyaz wherever she is. “Practice is the key to graceful dancing. I would suggest these contestants too, should continue dancing regardless of how the results pan out,” she says.
A true dancer at heart, Madhuri believes her job is a treat. “I love watching different dance forms on the show. Regardless of how well or badly the participants perform, watching a performance is always a delight and I enjoy every one of those,” she says adding, “My son once asked me, that ‘if you enjoy watching every performance equally, why is it that you give one lesser or more marks than the other?’ “I had little explanation for that, so I just smiled back not knowing what else to say,” she admits. Apart from being a part of Jhalak Dikhla Ja, Madhuri is working on two movies. One called Dedh Ishqiya produced by Vishal and Gulab Gang where she will be playing the role of a gangster.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
