‘I just speak my mind’
Poonam Pandey’s debut film Nasha will hit the screens on July 26. However, the actress, who has once again landed in controversy for the bold theme and scenes from the film, feels she is a bit outspoken and ahead of her time.
“I never intend to initiate a controversy. I rather fall into it. It just happens. I just believe in speaking my mind and that at times, is too bold for some people,” says Poonam, who is presently busy promoting her upcoming film which is a tale of an 18-year-old boy falling in love with 25-year-old woman.
The film has been in news for its steamy scenes and songs. On being asked why she chose such a bold theme for her debut, she says, “I believe the film is meant for the younger generation. The young audience is smart, mature and we are hoping that they will be able to see the underlying message of unfulfilled desires in the film.”
Poonam had an exciting time working on the film. Though she is not new to the camera and acting came naturally to her. “It was a wonderful experience working on the film. I shot scenes without too many retakes and loved every moment of it,” says Poonam. She asserts that the director of the film Amit Saxena had expected her to be nervous while shooting the intimate scenes, however, it was male actor Shivam who turned out to be a bit hesitant during some seduction scenes.
“It was funny to see Shivam acting shy. But thanks to Amit, we both managed to do it professionally. The film explores how madly one can fall in love and how far can one go for that love. I am probably the only actress who is playing a role older than my real age,” laughs Poonam.
She confesses that so far she has been getting offers of films with bold themes. However, Poonam is waiting for a challenging script that can give her an opportunity to prove her acting prowess. “I want to do all kinds of roles. I would love to play de-glam and strong characters. Right now I am considering many scripts and hopefully will decide on a few soon,” says Poonam.
Though Poonam is making a much-talked about debut in Bollywood, she insists that modeling would remain her first love. “Even when I am busy with film promotions and going through scripts, I will never stop modeling. It has been my passport to glam world and will be an important part of my career,” she ends.
