I never get depressed: Anupam

When an actor pens a book, you expect two things —either a book on Bollywood or an autobiography. But Anupam Kher has taken a different route. The actor has authored a book, The Best Thing About You Is…You, on life coaching with an intention of making a difference in his readers’ lives.
“I hope this book brings about a positive change in people’s lives. It is a simple book on how to deal with various aspects of your life, ups and downs, etc,” says Anupam. Throwing light on his reasons for turning author, the National-award winning actor says, “I faced problems a few years ago. My company wasn’t doing too well, movies were not doing well and it was a bad time overall. That’s when I decided to do the monologue Kuch Bhi Ho Sakta Hai, where I depicted the up and downs of my own life with a funny take. Many people told me that apart from being entertaining, it was also very inspirational. After that I started giving motivational lectures and even wrote articles on the subject and ultimately decided to write a book.”
Anupam, who has been part of more than 400 films, calls himself a complete optimist. “I never get depressed. It’s what people do when they give too much importance to themselves. The day you feel depressed, you should do something completely different that elevates your mood,” he says.
Anupam’s book was launched by Bollywood megastar Amitabh Bachchan along with Kirron Kher, Pritish Nandy and eminent media personalities. About having Big B on board the release of his book he says, “Mr Bachchan has always been very kind to me. He has always been my inspiration.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
