‘I wasn’t confident of winning at all’
A few years ago, she was one of the most popular vamps on Indian television. She was Komolika Basu — the one who wore stylish saris, dark kohl, huge bindis and was known for her trademark act of twirling a few strands of her hair while plotting her evil schemes. Cut to 2013, Urvashi Dholakia is in the limelight once again after being declared the winner of reality show Bigg Boss Season 6, having successfully completed a stay of 98 days in the house.
Speaking of her victory, an ecstatic Urvashi says, “Packing for three weeks, I had never imagined that I would be one of the finalists of this show. It was a wonderful journey and a great learning experience. The tasks were always a challenge to overcome and surviving till the end was not easy. But to be honest, if I have won the contest it was only because I was myself throughout.”
Apart from the Bigg Boss trophy, she has also won the grand prize of `50 lakhs. Competing with Urvashi in the finale, were stylist Imam Siddique and actress Sana Khan. While Imam emerged as the first runner-up, Sana was declared as the second runner-up. Talking about her competitors Urvashi says, “As both Sana and Imam were strong contestants, I was not confident of winning at all. They call Iman a ‘soft target’ but as they say taali hamesha ek haath se nahi bajti. I have had my share of fights with him as well though I don’t know if all of it was aired. But he is a thorough entertainer, no doubts about that.”
Urvashi’s not had an easy journey. A single mother of two, she isn’t used to staying away from her sons for such a long period. Her father had passed away recently. However, from being brave during the fights on the show to putting up with Bakhtiyar Irani’s aspersions on her character, she has proved that she is a tough woman. Ask her about the Bakhtiyar issue and she immediately reacts, “Who is Bakhtiyar? I don’t know him and I am really not bothered about what he thinks of me. I just know Delnaaz and Rajeev. In fact, they have been friends since a long time. I was shocked when Delnaaz was eliminated.”
Sharing her views on other contestants, she says, “Mink was like my sister since the very first time we met on the show. I love Vrajesh’s sense of humour.”
Urvashi did not forget Ekta Kapoor in her victory. She says, “Ekta is not only a friend but also a guide. I have worked with her for a long time and today if I am here, the credit goes to her and Balaji.”
So, what is she going to do with the prize money? “Charity begins at home,” she says, adding, “It is time for me to re-direct myself. As a single parent, cash is always handy for the education of my children. Apart from them, there are no plans as of now.”
She denies any plans of marriage in the near future saying, “My children are 17 years old and I am still asked about my marriage. I have never thought about this. I know my priorities and how to go about them.”
