‘I will wait for good scripts’
For Madhurima Banerjee, it was a dream come true when she got a role as the lead heroine in Kamaal Dhamaal Malaamal. The starlet realises that doing a film with the likes of Paresh Rawal is no small feat and believes that she has on her part, given the role her 100 per cent. But like most newcomers in the industry, Madhurima admits that acting was never a planned career option.
A law graduate from Mumbai, Madhurima says, “I had never taken a career in acting seriously. It was never on my mind. Instead I used to sing earlier. Director G.V. Iyer, who made the first ever Sanskrit film in the world, spotted me for the first time in his recording studio. It was he who convinced my mother that I should pursue acting as a profession. That’s how I took to it and started my acting journey with the serial Kadambari.”
Coming from a simple middle class family that placed academics first, Madhurima completed her studies before getting into films. She got offers from the South Indian film industry which she took up after completing her education. She soon got a call for an audition for Kamaal Dhamaal Malamaal and was finally chosen to play the lead. And what has she planned for the future? “I want to be associated with reputed production houses and do quality roles and films. I will wait for good scripts to come along before taking a decision. I want to try a variety of roles.”
