Indian designer makes it to NaP

The credit of taking Indian fashion to the world goes to many designers and the latest to make a name for himself abroad is young and talented designer Vineet Bahl, who became the first Indian designer to sell at one of the most prestigious and popular online shopping portals Net-a-Porter.com. (NaP)

NaP observed Vineet’s label for about two years before they finally decided to buy his SS12 collection. NaP has a reputation of following a studied approach about selecting the labels they retail through their site.
A proud Vineet says, “NaP is the doorway to the world of eclectic fashion where designers are literally handpicked having been scrutinised for their creativity and commercial viability, so now I am competing with labels like Gucci, Lanvin, YSL and Prada. The opportunity is important as it helps me take my product one step closer to my intended customer base that may not be present in the geographies where I sell through physical stores.”
There is a plethora of e-commerce fashion sites both in India and abroad and therefore it is important that one is associated with the right brand. NaP got into e-commerce a decade ago when the business of selling clothes online wasn’t even heard of. So it made sense to Vineet to enter the alliance. As expected the response has been phenomenal. A design by Vineet — a yellow maxi dress with an embroidered neckline and appliqué detail — sold out in less than 24 hours of having gone online.
“All in all I think it is a synergistic partnership, one I’m very proud of. However, I can’t afford to be complacent for there are many milestones that are yet to be achieved,” he says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
