‘Intimate scenes aren’t difficult’

Her first Hindi film, more than a decade ago Hum Ho Gaye Aapke, didn’t bring her much acclaim. While the film failed at the box-office, actor Reemma Sen turned to the Tamil film industry where she has done extremely well.

But an offer from the master of unconventional cinema, Anurag Kashyap, has again got Sen to Bollywood, and this time she is in the limelight even before the film has released.
Reemma says that her association with Anurag goes long back. “I know him from the days when he was not ‘the Anurag Kashyap’. I know him since last 10 years, he was a friend. We lost touch in between. But one day I got a call from his office and he was on the other side. He asked if I can do this role and there I was,” says Reemma. She recalls the old days when Anurag would get all excited while discussing a film. “He is still the same charged up and excited person he used to be. In those days, all that he would talk about or get excited about was movies. Till today, he lives, eats, breathes, and sleeps movies. His face lights up when he talks about a film,” shares Reemma.
Reemma’s role in the film is being much talked about because of the character’s liveliness. It also demanded her to get intimate with lead actor Manoj Bajpayee. But Reemma is cool about it. “Intimates scenes are not difficult to shoot. As an actor you should be comfortable portraying all sorts of characters. In fact, I play such a vivacious Bengali girl that on the sets people started calling me Bengal tigress. Plus, she is the only glamour quotient in the film,” she says.
Reports suggest that her role was initially offered to Konkana Sen and Nandita Das but this doesn’t bother Reemma. “I have no clue. As far as I know, it wasn’t offered to anyone else,” she says.
Reemma had a close shave while shooting in Varanasi. “I was there when the Varanasi bomb blast occurred. In fact, I had a narrow escape. I was supposed to go to the place where the blast happened but I changed my plans at the last minute. I guess, luck was on my side that day,” she shares.
She hopes more luck comes her way after the film’s release. Anyway, she has had a good beginning this year — getting married to Delhi-based restaurateur Shiv Karan Singh. However, Reemma says that Shiv hasn’t watched the film yet.
“He will watch it only after it hits the theatres. He hasn’t seen much of me as an actor. But as far as this film is concerned, I know he’ll end up loving it, as it’s a hard-core action/mafia film and he loves watching action,” she
concludes.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
