It is all about the family
For someone who went on to leave a full-fledged job in a bank to purse her hobby in photography, Shefalii Dadabhoy, a Chennai-based photographer who specialises in taking family portraits, talks about creating her identity, her exhibition and family.
Journey:
I left my job as a vice president of an MNC to take up my hobby (photography) as a profession. As part of my first exhibition, I sold almost 60 per cent of the work and that got me going to take things professional. I do not shoot indoors or in a studio — I shoot only outdoors, that too at my client’s residence so they are comfortable.
of 81 windows:
Kids bring a smile on my face, and what can be better than capturing them! Kids are one of the toughest subjects to capture. You need to be patient and comfortable with them. Being in a male dominated industry, I have been lucky to be a woman as all the moms-to-be, new mothers and kids are very comfortable with me as I can relate to them. I recently held my exhibition where I came up with the concept of 81 windows. I use 81 different pictures in the same frame that evoke candid emotions.
emotions in print:
Choosing to specialise in this field was out of choice. People want me to preserve their lineage and traditions in print and I am glad to do it. I spend almost three hours to shoot and ensure that I evoke emotions and capture raw beauty than airbrush my pictures. I do not shoot indoors, and believe in capturing pictures with the natural lighting.
I do not regret moving out of my job that gave me fat pay cheques — doing this makes me smile.
