It’s sonny days for Konkona

She loves travelling, has a fetish for desserts and strong coffee and is currently busy pampering her baby boy. For Konkona, despite facing so many ups and downs, life has just begun on a fresh note. Her son and her work have given a new meaning to her life. We recently caught up with Konkona Sen Sharma, who was in the capital at the opening of the new format of Café Coffee Day –– ‘The Coffee Day Square’.

The actress makes it clear that personal questions about her relationship with Ranvir Shorey shall not be entertained. For quite sometime now Konkona has been maintaining a low-key profile. The last time she was prominently in the public eye was during the promotions of Ek Thi Daayan. Apart from that, over the last two years she has worked in a couple of Bengali films, is currently busy doing some endorsements, reading scripts and wants to take up an exciting project by the end of this year.
Speaking about what has been keeping her busy, Koko says, “My son keeps me on my toes. In fact, I have become very selective in the choice of my films and I ask the directors if I can bring my baby along with me while I am shooting.”
The actress asserts that nurturing a newborn is no child’s play. “Motherhood is a sweet joyful experience that has made me more responsible. To have a beautiful, happy and healthy child is a blessing. It gives you a great perspective in life. Initially, it was tough as you are not responsible enough to handle that tiny little thing. Life explodes with medicines and nappies and all your expensive cosmetics are lined up on the top-most shelf,” she smiles.
Apart from motherhood, the dusky beauty is on a travelling spree. “Recently, I have been travelling a lot with my son. I keep visiting Kolkata as I am doing some endorsements there. Travelling with a kid is a different experience altogether. We keep moving like a long caravan –– my son, nanny and myself with jholas and loads of baggage, garnering attention from the co-passengers,” says Konkona, who named her son after the Haroun and the Sea of Stories by Salman Rushdie.
Sharing about after-hours fun, the actress says, “When I am not shooting, I take out time to read. What can be more relaxing than sitting on your couch, sipping coffee and reading, which takes you to a parallel world. When I am not reading, I like watching sitcoms like Louise, which is a perfect dose of comedy and is about a newly divorced father of two kids. Breaking Bad and Sherlock are the other series that I like to follow.”
Konkona, who looked calm, cool and confident in her skin says, “I don’t like collecting souvenirs. I do not store any messages on my phone or in my inbox. I don’t get attached to places or people. I have worked hard to be a detached personality.”
From offbeat films such as Mr and Mrs Iyer and 15 Park Avenue to commercial films like Wake Up Sid, Konkona has proved her mettle in several genres. Her acting in regional cinema, especially in Bengali films like Ek Je Acche Kanya and Dosar, has stood out. “I don’t really care about the thin line between mainstream and alternate cinema. In every form of art –– be it paintings, books or films — there has always been the divide. Merit of a film and the script should be the deciding factor,” she signs off.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
