Jogging, more fun

Jogging is a fitness trend that has stood the test of time. This is because it is one of the easiest and best ways to exercise the entire body. Yet fitness wannabes start jogging enthusiastically, without keeping in mind certain details.
Observes Shalini Bhargava, a Mumbai-based fitness trainer, “We often see that people jog for a few days and then suddenly quit because they complain of tiredness. A few minor, but necessary details can help produce better results.”
Like for any other workouts, warm-ups are essential. “Skipping or brisk walking before a jog is a good warm-up. Sit-ups and stretches are also an effective way to prepare the body for a run. Start to jog slowly, till you feel energetic. Gradually, increase the distance you jog as the days progress,” she instructs. And don’t omit the cool-down process. Stretching for at least fifteen minutes is a must after a jog.
Correct attire is also essential. Wearing the right shoes and clothes may sound absurd, but it’s actually important.
“Track pants or a track suit is the best outfit to wear while jogging, because they absorb sweat without making you uncomfortable. Also, buy a pair of good quality jogging shoes with proper cushioning. If the cushioning is not correct, it leaves you prone to injuries, which may later affect the knees,” explains Shalini.
Jogging releases a lot of perspiration, which could dehydrate you, so always carry a bottle of water or energy drinks whenever you are out on a jog.
“When you feel exhausted, sit down in one place and practice deep breathing. Drink energy fluids like fruit juices. This will help you get back on your feet,” she concludes.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
