John makes up for lost time

“I have matured as an individual. My relationship has taught me a lot,” says Bollywood heartthrob John Abraham, who recently ended his 10-year-old relationship with actress Bipasha Basu. But the actor has no regrets about the break-up and is happily single. “I have learnt to accept the realities of life with a smile. “I’m enjoying my singledom as much as I enjoyed being in a relationship. I don’t regret anything. Every relationship in life matters, it helps you grow as a person. Probably, three years back I would’ve gotten upset if personal questions were asked to me. Today, I am sitting, smiling, answering everything because it’s a fact of life that I’ve experienced,” says the actor who was in the city for the launch of Van Heusen flagship store at Ambience Mall recently.
Donning a casual laidback look, John says he now wants to spend quality time with his parents. “At some point in life, even I want to get married, have a family and settle down, but right now I’m enjoying my time and space more than anything else. I want to spend this time with my family. Honestly, once I became an actor in 2003, I could not spare enough time for them. When we get into relationships and career, we forget about our parents. So, now I am spending as much time as possible with my parents who aren’t doing very well physically. It’s just to make up for all the lost time,” he adds.
Although having been linked to several actresses after his break-up, the actor remains mum about his relationship status, but says his onscreen chemistry works well with every actress. “I looked good with Katrina Kaif in New York and Vidya Balan in Salam-e-ishq, and also have received compliments about pairing with co-star Genelia D’Souza in my next film Force. My onscreen romance works well with all actresses,” he says with a smile.
John, who has Dhoom 3, Garam Masala 2, Housefull 2, Shootout At Wadala and I, Me, Myself lined up, says his upcoming film Force is his deliberate attempt to make place in the action hero category. “I have not done any action film after Dhoom. I was doing more romantic films, which somehow disappointed my fans. Many people even approached me saying that if you have great strength and physique you should try doing more action film and so Force happened.”
“Stallone has been an inspiration for me since the time I was in school, when his movie Rocky came out,” says the actor.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
