Kamal’s acting floors Osborne

His movies create waves, even while he is indulgently putting final touches on them. The activities he gets involved in instantly garner supporters in plenty. Without even being politically inclined, he manages to create huge public impact through his speeches and film dialogues. Yet, he makes no bones about being hailed as a legend.

Genius sits lightly on this powerhouse of talent. It is his characteristic nonchalance that probably won him great respect from the likes of Barrie Osborne, a noted Hollywood filmmaker who has made films like The Lord Of The Rings, The Long and Short Of It and The Prophet.
Put this to Kamal Hassan and he smiles. “Barrie is a good man. I respect his work. I met him ages ago, he has even watched some of my movies. In fact he watched Dasavatharam and loved it. When I was in LA, mixing for my film Viswaroopam, he saw it more than once. I was touched by his warm feedback. He watched it four times and decided to work with me. We have been in talks over a Hollywood project and it is going to happen sometime. I can’t tell how soon because preparation in the West takes a long time.”
Elaborating on the time spent in LA, he says, “I was showing the film to people from Fox Studios when Barrie joined us. He is such a big name, there was no need for him to look at our film, but I was touched by his genuine appreciation and feedback. We’ve spent a lot of time talking and both of us are very excited about our upcoming project.”
Portions of the film will be shot in India and Kamal Hassan’s exact role in the project is not yet confirmed. But sources say he will be heavily involved in scripting the film.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
