Kareena’s Diet secrets

I have no idea how the news spread about me being size zero. In fact, while shooting in Ladakh for Tashan, I was advised to have everything available locally. I lived on butter tea and sugar while shooting out there.
Also, I do not eat meat. However, if I’m advised to eat meat by my dietician then it is just for one meal. But I just can’t eat meat at night. Surprisingly, I can even have kachoris and samosas.
I remember when Saif and I were in Lucknow and I asked my dietician what I could eat, she immediately said, “Eat whatever you get there.” When I told her I can only see kachoris and samosas, she said, “Go ahead and eat them!”
I eat the right way and in a balanced manner. I would advise everyone to have simple rice, dal and some yummy vegetable dish after a hard day at work. I guarantee you will have a good night’s sleep. It’s important to eat the right amount of food at the right time. I keep eating every two hours.
My favourite things to eat are paneer and lauki (bottle gourd). When I’m shooting, I usually just have dal, rice or pulao and raita. I like eating khichdi for dinner. People have the wrong notion that rice makes you put on weight. But I feel very light and slim the next day. This simple diet is nutritious and keeps your weight in check.
When I was an adolescent, I was influenced by everyone talking about being slim. I would have my coffee without sugar and it was so depressing. Now, I enjoy my coffee with sugar. Ghee is another thing I cannot live without. I always ask my cook to add a teaspoon of ghee to my parathas every morning. This one teaspoon of ghee keeps me active and helps my skin stay fresh. My paternal grandma is nearly 85 and she has ghee every day too. Believe me, she is so fit and has no bone problems.
In the morning, even before sipping coffee, I eat one banana. I don’t go for expensive fruits. I also have banana milk shake as it contains calcium and potassium. This not only keeps me cool, my stomach also feels full.
I have not changed my eating habits after marriage and even Saif prefers ghar ka khaana.
I like having kheer after Indian food but I keep a gap of about an hour after lunch. I am also fond of jalebis. In the Pataudi house, we have a lot of Nawabi food and while Saif has seekh kababs, I go in for vegetarian kababs. The food there is yummy. But Nawabi food is also very rich so whenever I’m there, I eat hot rotis with ghee and some hot dal. I have mastered the art of planning how to eat. And I’m even Saif’s dietician now!
Last but not the least, eat a balanced diet at the right time and eat local and seasonal foods. This will keep you calm, quiet and balanced on the inside and make you look your best on the outside.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
