King of Bhangra beats returns
He is one of the best known British Asian artistes in the world and is the âgodfather of Bhangraâ. The 90s dance music was incomplete without his popular track, Aaja Nachle. He is known for his smash hit remixes like Noorie, Dil Cheez and Tum Bin Jiya. The international sensation dons many hats as a celebrity DJ, producer and music maker. After a gap of ten long years, Bally Sagoo has come up with his new studio album, Future Shock, containing all original tracks.
âMy new album has brand new tracks. None of them are remixes, cover versions or Bollywood music. I worked really hard on over the years, curating some great new voices and putting the right beats together. It has my trademark style, that includes Bhangra, nice chill out music and Hindi songs. I hope the long wait of my followers will be worth it,â says the globetrotting musician. Future Shock has been released by Universal Music in India.
Talking about the long gap, he informs, âI have been working on a lot of projects, including my own music label, FreshDope records and also set up a studio in Mumbai, to create a solid base and scout for talent.â
Most of the songs in his new album have been sung by new singers from various parts of the country. The music producer has worked with accomplished names like Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan, Asha Bhonsle, Sonu Nigam and Alka Yagnik as well as Punjabi singers like Malkit Singh and Hans Raj Hans as well. But promoting fresh talent has always been a top priority. âThe new voices in my latest album will be big and will be able to make their voices heard across the globe,â he adds.
The artiste puts forth, that he enjoys and listens to all kinds of music, to draw inspiration from. âI love all kinds and forms of music. I can listen to Tamil, Bengali and Marathi music as well as Caribbean and Arabic music. I donât understand these languages. But it does not matter. It is all about the music,â he smiles.
Sagoo has given music for films like Monsoon Wedding and Bend it like Beckham in the past, that have become immensely popular. On being asked about the music scene in the country, he says, âWith the advent of social media, especially YouTube, Twitter and Facebook, the GenY have vast exposure and have become more receptive to international music. We donât have many popstars in the country. It is all about Bollywood.â
