Klimt inspires ramp fashion
Considering that Drashta Sarvaiya’s showing at the Summer/Resort season of the Lakme Fashion Week earlier this year was so well-received, you’d expect the young designer to be relaxed about her latest collection, being showcased at the ongoing Winter/Festive season on in Mumbai. But no.
“There is a certain amount of anxiety whenever one is showcasing a new line,” Drashta says. “People do expect you to do better season after season.”
Not only is she pushing the limits of a global trend (the peplum), but she’s also translated her love for the work of symbolist painter Gustav Klimt in her designs. “When you look at art which is created with passion, you feel the energy almost instantly. It happened when I first came across Klimt’s work a few years ago. I felt inspired and I instantly surrounded myself with his work. I love his use of colours and patterns, especially the way he painted nudes — supple, beautiful and confident women,” Drashta says.
Drashta calls herself her “biggest critic”, but she is confident that with her Klimt-inspired line, the audience will take away “memories of gorgeous outfits they can see themselves living in and loving”.
Well that’s something we’ll just have to wait and watch out for.
