Krishna gets a fitting tribute with bright hues

As Janmashtmi is being celebrated in the capital today in colourful hues, paying a tribute to lord Krishna, for blessing him with miracles, designer Rohit K. Verma has designed exclusive costumes named “Hare” for the residing deity of Iskon temple in Punjabi Bagh.
Choosing from a range of fabrics like chiffon banarasi, georgette and raw silk, Rohit has dedicated the expensive designs to Lord Krishna. “Being a follower of Lord Krishna, I’m obliged that I got the opportunity to dress him. The fabrics are adorned with swarvoski and Australian crystals and have a rich look. The costume for Radha is a beautifully designed Victorian cut lehnga. When the authorities from Iskon contacted me, I decided to take this opportunity to show my gratitude to my Lord,” he says.
Using a combination of beautiful bright colours for Krishna, Rohit says, “He is the most colourful and romantic God. He loves bright colours, so I’ve used them for his costumes.”
And the outfits come for a small amount. Revealing the money that went behind the creations, Rohit remarked, “I don’t want to reveal the money I’ve spend on this creation, but it’s really expensive. My idea is not to get publicity. I didn’t even want people to know about it, but since the Iskon authorities printed it on the walls of the temple, I had to talk about it.”
For someone who treaded the longer, tougher route to where he is today, Rohit says Lord Krishna has blessed him with many miracles. “When I came to Mumbai in 1996, without my parents’ support, Lord Krishna helped me in more than one way. It was my faith in Him that helped me survive. I visited Iskon one day, and from that moment on, life started changing. I got work, an accommodation and a direction in life,” he shares.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
