Let’s talk a little green
Are you worried over the reports of the government’s plans to increase power tariff? If yes, green building concept can help you save your money.
“A green building is one which uses less water, improves energy efficiency, conserves natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier spaces for occupants, as compared to a conventional building,” says M. Anand, senior counsellor at Hyderabad-based CII-Sohrabji Godrej Green Business Centre.
Though eco-friendly designs are not alien to Indians as they follow Vastu, the modern green building concepts incorporate new materials such as autoclaved aerated concrete (AAC) blocks to insulate the building from solar heat. This reduces the energy spent on cooling systems such as air-conditioning, etc.
“A major part of our energy bill is because of cooling systems and lighting. The green concepts can lead to a saving of 20 to 30 per cent of energy expenditure,” Mr Anand said.
Intangible benefits of green homes are enhanced air quality, excellent daylighting, health and well-being of the occupants.
