Losing the ‘K’ tag

Anxious and nervous, the scion of the Kapoor khandaan is awaiting his next big release. “It has been a gratifying experience. I had to live with a Jat family, eat, sleep, drink and party with them to get into my role. But now I am nervous about the film,” says Ranbir Kapoor. He will soon be in the city to promote his film, Rockstar.

Seven films and three years in the industry have been quite a learning experience for him. Particularly when it comes to dealing with gossip about his relationships. “I am used to the stories. It doesn’t affect me anymore. Initially, Nargis (Fakhri) was feeling awkward, but my relationship with my co-stars never changes. I am the same lovable and understanding person,” says Ranbir.
Being constantly in the news for different controversies doesn’t affect him anymore. “I enjoy every bit of being in the limelight. As a celebrity child you get used to reading about yourself and your family all the time. I don’t mind the attention I get, earlier my parents and their relationships were being talked about and now it is my turn,” says a confident Ranbir. But being a Kapoor boy didn’t help him become a star overnight.
“I haven’t taken my job for granted in this industry. It is now that people have started recognising me as an actor. I don’t carry the Kapoor tag anymore,” says a cautious Ranbir whose biggest critic is his father.
“My mum is my biggest fan but my father is a hard critic. The day my father watches one of my films and gives me a pat on the back, that will be the greatest moment for me,” adds Ranbir.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
