Aru and Rajiv Mani

Aru and Rajiv Mani

She was a model in her prime, jet-setting with the best designers and sashaying across ramps all over India. He was a young, enthusiastic businessman carrying on his father’s legacy, serving as director at Amaria, The Guitar Café and forging a collaboration with the Enrique Keller guitar brand, bringing the sound of the strings to the city’s cognoscenti.

Rajiv has also customised a special guitar for superstar Rajinikanth which costs over a couple of lakhs and is waiting for an appointment to gift it to him. Chennai’s party scene and hotspots were the setting for a blossoming romance that culminated in marriage for Rajiv Mani and Aru Nayar.
Aru: I was busy with my career and hardly ever got time to relax. I was always travelling extensively and really enjoyed my profession. In fact, I was set to take up more offers, maybe even move to Mumbai to hit greener pastures. But when I met Rajiv, I knew it was time for me to settle down.
Rajiv: I had no objection at all to her carrying on with her modelling career even after we married. She’s very talented, and has always been amazing at whatever she’s put her mind to. She knows how to interact with people, carry herself gracefully and where the boundaries are in her line of work.
Aru: He’s definitely helped me mature as a person, especially at an emotional level. More than understanding each other and developing trust, we have also learnt to give each other space, which was essential. From mad kids in love, we evolved into a dignified couple.
Rajiv: It’s been three years of wedded bliss. Her smile and laugh are my favourite things all through these years. She’s grown to be incredibly supportive of my job and I always take her advice on important decisions. As for keeping up with social commitments, be it with a big group of friends or just by ourselves, we always have a great time.
Aru: Our Thailand adventure remains etched in my memory as my favourite. It was such a blast. Regarding the future, we absolutely wish to add to our family and make it bigger.
Rajiv: It will definitely be more of the same fun, madness and enjoying every day as it comes.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
