Love ties, knots & tangles

When entering the `100 cr club is becoming a benchmark in Bollywood, the director and starcast of I, Me aur Main say that they are not aiming for it. During a film promotion at Le Meridian, Janpath, director Kapil Sharma said, “The film is not made keeping the Rs 100 cr club in mind. We are rather aiming for the audience to be able to relate to it.”

As the stars of the film were engaged in a friendly conversation, Chitrangada Singh and Prachi Desai told us that John Abraham is playing a mama’s boy and every woman would be able to relate to it. “I, Me aur Main is actually a story of Ishaan, a self-obsessed man. As he is always too busy talking about his problems, the film highlights how women in his life deal with him and vice versa,” said Prachi looking pretty in leopard print dress.
John has two women in his life, and protected by an elder sister and a mother, says Prachi. “He is surrounded by women in the film,” she added.
Chitrangada, who is playing John Abraham’s live-in partner, insists that the film is not a typical romcom and focuses on relationships between grown up people. “I am playing a successful working woman who pays all the bills and whose boyfriend lives in her apartment. So the film is not about the college romance but what happens after it,” said the dusky beauty.
The actress says that the film also deals with the changing role of women in society and how men are taking it. “I believe women are financially independent but emotionally they still look for commitment in a relationship. And this is what happens with my character in the film also,” said Chitrangada.
John maintains that it’s not just the content but even the promotions for the film are strategy-based. “We are not going overboard with promotions either. Films like Vicky Donor, Paan Singh Tomar, Kahaani and Ferrari Ki Sawaari were some of the content-driven films that made news last year. We are also aiming to get similar response. We believe that our target audience, urban adults, will be attracted towards the film since it deals with the problems and issues they have to deal with,” said John.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
