Mad about curves
The curvier, the better seems to be the newest mantra among men! Yes! You read it right. It’s not the women who are crusading about their weight issues. It is the boys who seem to be unabashedly honest about their fondness for curvy women.
The latest among the dudes to talk about his fancy for curves is Lady Gaga’s beau actor Taylor Kinney. Back home in India, Akshay Kumar doesn’t get tired of bringing up the topic of how Sonakshi Sinha is the new-age beauty with her full-bodied figure.
Showing off her curves in a bikini, Gaga wrote on her blog, “My boyfriend prefers me curvier.” Definitely most men seem to be going ga-ga over indulgent figures. “I like voluptuous women. Right from times immemorial, Indian artists and sculptors have created an imaginary picture of a woman who is the true definition of feminity. Size-zero was promoted by the West. Any day a curvy, full-bodied woman is more likeable,” says actor Anas Rashid of Diya aur Bati Hum fame, adding, “Salma Hayek is one such woman.” Term it as aesthetics or just desirability, the attention grabbed by buxom bodied women is not going unnoticed. Curves have become the hottest topic of discussion and men seem to love it.
“I am pro-curvy. When I see a thin woman like Poonam Pandey, I feel somebody has to give her some vada-pavs so that she doesn’t die of starvation. I am completely against women being extra-thin. Looking famished, like they are going to die, doesn’t help women at all,” says MTV VJ Jose Covaco. With Kareena Kapoor, Sonakshi Sinha and the voluptuous Vidya Balan showing off their curves, men have been drooling overtime. But those from the glam fraternity say, it is a matter of personal choice. “Firstly it’s not fair to manifest your expectations on someone as ‘the ultimate’. Beauty is beyond skin deep. But I personally feel being healthy adds a certain radiance to the personality and that’s what I like,” says fashion designer Nachiket Barve.
With more men endorsing curves, full-bodied, fit and healthy women seem to be in demand. “The healthier the woman, the better she looks. I definitely prefer a fit body than a lean-skinny figure,” says actor-model Syed Zulfi. “Indian women particularly are known for their ‘chubby side’. They have their own charm and just need to work on it by being fit, instead of starving and looking famished,” he adds.
