Magic that hands play
Be it a dancer’s articulate mudras or a mother’s gentle pat and a soldier’s strong grip on the gun, the magical prowess of hands is immense. Based on this unique theme, a national level painting competitions, titled “Magic of Hands” for school students will be held in the capital.
The brochure for the competiton was released by the UPA chairperson, Sonia Gandhi at her residence recently. “The event will send out a good message to the students and create awareness about the use of hands,” she said.
This competition is open for students of Classes 6 to 9. A maximum of 20 students are invited to participate from one school. The students also need to give a title to their painting by penning a few lines about what made them draw it. The last date for submission of entries is February 12.
“Like eyes, hands are not only vital body parts, but great mediums of expression and this show will highlight that importance. The competition, which carries a total prize of `10 lakh is being held in connection with the 12th Triennial Congress of International Federation of Societies for Surgery of Hand and the 9th Triennial Congress of the International Federation of Societies for Hand Therapy on March 4 to 8," said Dr Rakesh Khazanchi, head, department of plastic surgery, Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon.
He added that the top 50 paintings will be selected and winner will be communicated by February 15. The shortlisted students will then need to attend an authentication camp where they have to reproduce their paintings. These 50 paintings will be published in a book.
