Make the most of your clutch
The car clutch is something that you use extensively while driving. Clutch assembly may be worn out due to a number of reasons, from improper usage to wear and tear. Tell tale signs that your clutch is wearing out include difficulty selecting or changing into gears, hearing a crunching noise when you try to depress the clutch, sensing a burning smell or finding that your engine revs without accelerating.
So, it is important to make sure that it is in good working condition to get the best from your drive. But, how do you take care of your car’s clutch? Experts from Skoda Auto India, share their tips:
Do not rest your foot on the clutch pedal, use the dead pedal instead
Excess revving of the engine before engaging the clutch may damage the clutch
Do not drive unnecessarily at too high or too low engine revolutions
Always drive no more than about one length of your vehicle in first gear
Always shift up into the next higher gear at approx. 2000 to 2500 engine rpm
Avoid slipping the clutch especially in slow moving traffic
Make proper use of handbrake for hill start rather than letting the clutch slip excessively
Always refer to your car owner's manual for driving tips
Have your car inspected at authorised dealers only.
