After getting appreciated by the audience as the charming host of reality shows India’s Got Talent and Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, television host Manish Paul is all set to make his big screen debut with Mickey Virus, which will be the directorial debut of Saurabh Varma.

Said to be a comic thriller, Mickey Virus is a story about a Punjabi computer geek Mickey who plans a con of a lifetime.
Talking about his role in the movie, which is set in Delhi, Manish says, “I will be playing the role of a chilled out Punjabi guy, which is very similar to my real life character. I believe I have a sense of comic timing and an innocent face required for the character of a typical Delhi boy.”
A few months back one saw TV actor Ayushmann Khurrana strike gold with his debut movie Vicky Donor. Now here is yet another small screen host Manish debuting.
Manish says, “Every actor wants to work in Bollywood. It feels good that the film industry is stretching its arms and welcoming fresh talent. Today, we find so many young generation directors and actors making their Bollywood debut, which proves that you don’t always have to be the son of a star to make a breakthrough in the industry.”
So will he shift his focus from the small screen to the silver screen? “I will still not leave television completely and work things out between television and films,” Manish quickly adds.
Paul has been in Mumbai since 2005. “I miss the Delhi streets and going out on long drives and eating in Chandni Chowk. I also miss playing cricket with friends.”
He stepped into the acting world with TV show Ghost Bana Dost, and followed it up with shows like Chhoona Hai Aasmaan, Radhaa Ki Betiyaan Kuch Kar Dikhayengi and Pyaar Mein Twist.
The actor feels his job as the host for reality shows, live events and award functions is quite challenging. Known for his spontaneity, wit and humour, Manish says, “People think it is very easy to go on stage and just blabber anything. But it’s not like we can just go and blindly follow a script. It is important to innovate, improvise, and be good at speaking impromptu. At the same time, one always has to be careful not to offend anyone.”

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
