Marathon fun-raiser
A bunch of youngsters will be gathering together, not to protest, but to have fun and serve a cause. “Dance Marathon is a unique fundraiser with the involvement of city youngsters and club members. Each registered participant or dancer will dance for eight hours, their sponsors will comprise of family, friends or corporates, helping them raise/pledge a minimum of Rs 2,500 per dancer and Rs 1,000 for students,” says Taruna Seth, chairperson of Dance Marathon, Rotary Club of Delhi and Southend Next.
Taruna elaborates, “It will be a fun event with non-stop action. There will be dance workshops (Bollywod, hip hop, belly dancing, salsa and zumba), energetic dance performances by dance troupes including the Aasma group and choreographers and DJs playing some current Bollywood and international hits.”
Mark, a member of Aasma, one of the participating troupes says, “We are really excited to be a part of this event. The whole idea is to keep the audience energised throughout the marathon with peppy dance moves. What can be more satisfying than dancing and raising funds to provide medical assistance to children who require paediatric dialysis and whose families can’t afford it.”
Pawan Kumar Mishra, B-tech student and one of the participants at the Dance Marathon, is all set for the weekend fun. He says, “Dance, music, fun and food and that too for a noble cause — what else can a youngster ask for!”
