Marley Jr carries on dad’s legacy
From tribal villages in Africa to Scandinavian cities, his songs transcended reggae — Bob Marley is inarguably one of the most recognised musicians across the globe. The popularity of the Jamaican icon continues to allure us with his knock-off images plastered on dorm room walls and T-shirts.
We recently spoke to his son, Rohan Marley, who is coming to the capital today to launch his House of Marley audio and lifestyle products, about the bond he shared with his father, music and much more.
Rohan didn’t become a musician like his dad and instead made a name for himself as a footballer. He now prefers to call himself “an entrepreneur who always wants to give something to the society.” House of Marley is just one of the many projects he is involved with.
When asked if as a child, he managed to spend time at Hope Road — Bob’s former residence — Rohan said, “I lived with my mother when I was very young. And on Fridays, I would go to the Hope Road house.”
Sharing about his relationship with Bob he quips, “I have always been a trouble-maker. If my father was upstairs, I would hide somewhere downstairs.”
He added, “I loved Bob so much. I am only left with his fond memories and YouTube videos.”
