MCD to be on Facebook from Jan
Here’s an early New Year gift for Delhiites from the Municipal Corporation of Delhi. MCD is all set to enter the social networking site Facebook to connect with citizens. Taking a cue from the Delhi Traffic Police page on Facebook that has become quite popular, MCD wants to empower the ordinary man to take matters in his hands.
MCD additional commissioner Anshu Prakash shares that the page is open to complaints and suggestions by users.
“The page will ensure greater transparency, and clear accountability of issues that matter. Initially, the focus of the page will be on garbage removal and cleanliness in the city. If this is well received, then we will include areas like public health and roads on the page.”
“It’s a good move, as long as it works,” reasons Upasna Lall, marketing executive. She adds, “If the MCD has people dedicated for this it would work better than any other system that’s ever been set up until now. It’s a good idea for citizens to connect and raise civic issues.”
Prakash affirms that action against complaints will be addressed within 24 hours. “Out of MCD’s 12 zones, sanitation has been privatised in eight. The private agencies responsible for these areas will have to take action on complaints posted on the site. People can register their complaints and suggestions online,” he says.
Charu Kalra, HR consultant says, “It’s good that the MCD is becoming tech-savvy. Despite having busy schedules, people find time for Facebook. But MCD should ensure that every complaint is addressed and resolved within 24 hours. Also, Facebook is popular amongst youngsters. This awareness should be raised amongst people from slums and the older generation, who are not a part of Facebook.”
“Who has the time to go to the MCD office? Asks Richa Gupta, PR professional. She says, “Nobody likes to deal with government officers. If MCD genuinely wants people to connect with them, they have to build trust and do things sincerely.”
