MCD goes online to make admission process smoother
The Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) is going hi-tech this admission season. For the first time, the civic body will have the option of online admissions, thus cutting down on queues at its 1,729 schools in the capital. But would the move be of actual significance as many opting for admissions in government-run schools may not be computer literate and some lack basic education qualification as well.
The move has been appreciated by teachers, students and parents alike, all agree that a proper system should be in place, with proper assistance to help parents in availing this facility. “Most of these people won’t have computers at home. So, they will go to Internet cafes to fill in the forms. And there is a chance they may be taken for a ride at the cafe,” opines Beni Sachdeva, a young professional.
“A few form-filling booths can be set up by the authorities during the admission season. They can deploy some computer operating staff there to assist the parents. And to avoid a rush at these counters, a schedule can be set up,” suggests Lavaniya Shah, a student.
“The move is appreciable to begin with. Of course there would be initial hitches to the program, but let’s see how the authorities manage to pull it off. The best is instead of a token gesture, it is a concrete mmove to make admissions easier for parents,” says Neeti Prasad, a teacher.
