Heavy/thrash metal band Zygnema has qualified as the Wacken Open Air India finalist. They will soon fly to Germany to compete against 30 countries in what’s considered one of the biggest heavy metal festivals of the world.

The core members of the band are Jimmy Bhore on vocals, Siddharth Kadadi on guitars, Ravi Satpute on bass and Mayank Sharma on drums.
However, the band that won the Rolling Stone Metal Award last year, is not nervous in the least. As of now, they are concentrating on arranging the finances for the Wacken tour. “We still haven’t planned anything special for our gig, because currently we are neck-deep in getting other logistics in place. But we hope to put in extra hours of practice and give it our all,” says Siddharth.
They were confident of clearing the India leg of the festival right from the start. “That was the whole motive behind participating. The stakes were high but we were positive that we could nail this,” he adds.
Quiz him on future plans of the band and Siddharth says that right now they cannot even think beyond Wacken. “It’s a dream and we are going to try to win the Wacken. Because if that happens, then we won’t have much to worry after that,” smiles Siddharth.
While Zygnema is all for the online growth of independent music, they also feel that live gigs are what makes all the difference. “The more shows you play, the more famous you get. So if you have two to three songs streaming online, if people have seen you perform live, then there are more chances of them going ahead and purchasing your music,” Siddharth says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
