Metro helps stars connect with fans

Be it Bollywood celebs or our new-age netas, swanky Metro trains, which connect them with the aam aadmi, are becoming the new promotional tool. After Rahul Gandhi, who rode the Metro earlier this month to reach the venue of a rally, the latest to join the brigade is King Khan, who hopped on to the Delhi Airport Metro Express to promote his upcoming film Ra.One. And the excitement escalated to new heights when Shah Rukh Khan stopped by for a press conference at the Shivaji Stadium station.
“I couldn’t believe my eyes when I saw him. My cousin called to say that Shah Rukh Khan is at the station but I thought it’s just a rumour. When I heard the crowd cheering loudly, I realised he was there,” said Anushree, a medical student at the station. He may be one of the most protected VIPs, but Shah Rukh was more than excited to be travelling in the Metro with fans.
“I had heard a lot about this Metro. In fact, I wanted to do a sequence in the Delhi Metro for Ra.One but since we didn’t have much time, we had to shoot in the local trains of Mumbai. When I came here, I was pleasantly surprised,” said Shah Rukh. It is also being said that the first film shooting on the Airport Express line is slated later this month for Mahesh Bhatt’s upcoming sequel of Jannat. And if that happens, Delhiites will get their Bollywood dose while commuting. “It’s a great way to promote a film. If you want to connect with the audience, you have to come out of your comfort zones and be in their shoes. We can’t connect with larger than life figures just by seeing them on the big screen,” said Rahul Khanna, a student.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
