Model to dance nude in protest
Nudity has once again become a shortcut to fame. After model Poonam Pandey’s promise to shed clothes if India lifted the World Cup, it’s now Delhi-based model Salina Wali Khan’s turn to hog the limelight along a similar route. She has plans to dance in the buff if the government fails to pass the Lokpal bill.
Although it might be the model’s way of supporting the cause, it comes as a shock for city’s social circuit, who find it silly to tag along with a bigger cause for “personal” mileage. “This is pure drama by these phony people to get instant popularity,” says model Amanpreet Wahi and adds, “Who knows Salina Wali? These girls should know that these are foreign concepts that won’t work in our country. If they can make such bold statements, they should also have the guts to keep their promises. As Anna’s movement gains momentum, these glamour-crazy people want to make full use of it be in limelight. It’s just a shortcut to fame.”
Seconds socialite Mehar Bhasin and says, “She doesn’t know that there can be huge repercussions of such bold statements. They don’t even think about their families. It would have had some weightage had it been in support of breast cancer alleviation or women’s issues. But going nude for Anna is an insult to him and his supporters. It’s sad that these girls stoop to any level for publicity.”
Some feel that media should avoid giving importance to trivial things said by such random people. Says Salloli Kumar, socialite, “With Anna’s protest creating mass hysteria in the country, a silly statements like this isn’t even worth paying attention to. It is media’s responsibility to avoid publicising such petty moves. We should not give mileage to anything that diverts nation’s attention to such frivolous activities.”
Youngsters too are of the same opinion. Devika Mittal, a college student says, “I don’t understand how people get such whacky ideas. Anna Hazare’s movement is a serious issue and I don’t think we really need such shock waves. Hope the bill is passed by the government because we don’t want any nude performances at Ramlila Grounds.”
