Moms call the shots
A baby’s smile surely lights up a mother’s life. No wonder that some of the best amateur photographers are mommies. Celebrating the occasion of Mother’s Day, Dhoomimal Gallery in the city saw an interesting mix of socialites, entrepreneurs, beauty experts, fashion designers and others who shared the two best shots of their kids.
“Looking at the pictures of the children from different backgrounds displayed under one roof is a delight. Babies are very active and make for very interesting subjects of photographs. On the occasion of Mother’s Day, I would like to say that one thing that I have learnt from my mother s and would like to teach my child, Arjun, is to be determined and hard working. My mommies have been extremely loving and patient with us and have always struck a balance between personal and professional life. I hope to do the same with Arjun,” avers Yamini Reddy, who looked happy and cheerful as she celebrated the first Mother’s Day with her son.
Synonymous with the beauty care industry Shahnaz Husain and her daughter Nelofar Currimbhoy were present at the do. Glancing at the old pictures, Nelofar went into a retrospective mood and shared, “Looking at the pictures (specially clicked by one’s mother) of your childhood reminds you of the nurturing mother and the love she showered upon you. With her quintessential abilities, my mother has risen to become one of India’s foremost businesswomen and yet she has remained a strongly traditional woman. This is, I believe, one of the most inspirational qualities of my mother.”
Reflecting on the bond that the mother-daughter share, Shahnaz advised young mommies to develop a healthy, friendly and an open relationship with the next generation.
Sharing her thoughts about the event, curator Sunaina Jain of Dhoomimal Art Gallery said, “We came up with this exhibition, where over 50 moms happily shared the pictures of their kids to be displayed during the event. I realised a lot of friends started trying their hands at the camera when their children were in a nascent stage. Gradually, as the kids grew up some mothers still continued to click and started taking photography seriously, while others just left it behind. So, we thought of bringing the hidden talent of the mommies to the forefront and invited them to share the two best shots of their kids.”
Fashion designer Mandira Lamba shared, “To strike the right balance between your personal and professional life is the basic quality of a ‘supermom’. I manage to spend maximum time with my son Aryaveer on the field. We play a lot of golf and other sports together, where I also click a lot of his pictures. A kid in motion makes for a perfect picture.”
