Mona’s content with herself

It was difficult to keep her identity under wraps for so long, yet Mona Singh kept everyone guessing about her beautiful self while shooting for Jassi Jaisi Koi Nahi almost nine years ago. Since then the Punjabi kudi has come a long way.

The show that brought Mona instant fame and superstardom, created history of sorts with its characters and TRP ratings.
However, Mona didn’t move onto another daily, instead she chose to compere, anchor and judge several reality shows.
After a decade, Mona finally agreed to join the soap bandwagon with Ekta Kapoor’s Kya Hua Tera Waada.
“It’s been a while since I’’ve done a daily. And the reason I agreed to do KHTW is because the channel and the production house agreed to work on my terms and conditions. I have put in a lot of hard work in these nine years where I’ve shot for 48 hours at a stretch. It’s been one difficult journey, but right now I want to work and also have my own time. I can’t work with crazy schedules at this stage in my life,” she says with a grin.
Does the me-time mean spending time with that special someone? “I know what you’re getting at,” she laughs. “I’m very sure that when I get married I’ll want to spend quality time with my husband and family. But I don’t really know when that will happen,” she shrugs.
Mona insists that her parents haven’t been pressurising her to settle down. “They are concerned, but there is no pressure to get married. But somewhere deep down in my heart I know that I will get married to the person I love,” she adds.
And even before we counter question, she smartly moves on to another topic. “Barring the 5-8 days’ family vacation, I haven’t really taken a break. For nearly a decade now I have been working non-stop,” she says proudly. Thankfully, Mona has reached a stage where she can have things her way. “I can afford to put my foot down,” she says.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
