Mother of party music
You can’t miss the twinkle in her eyes, as she hits the console and sets the party mood. She loves to create music and hates to be referred to as a deejay. A globetrotting artist, headstrong and opiniated, Ma Faiza created the perfect mélange of rhythm and melody at her recent performance in the city.
As the undisputed queen of electronic music in the country, we asked Ma Faiza how the genre is faring in the party circuits. “Electronic music in the country is at its peak. Most youngsters relate to it and understand it quite well. There are dedicated fans of EDM in India, especially of the mainstream stuff like David Guetta and Paul Van. But yes, we are now moving from the commercial EM to the next level,” asserts Ma Faiza.
Talking about her music, she says, “I like creating happy music that makes the body move.” Ma Faiza played to a full-house at the b-bar.
Bollywood has a strong influence on dance music. But she has managed to keep it at bay in her performances. “Bollywood is for the masses. EM is a niche genre. The followers of the latter are culturally on a different sphere. I consciously steer clear of it. I play at places that appreciate world music,” says the spirited artist. She played a mix of all kinds of music ranging from Moroccan to East Asian to Arabic and all genres of EDM including melodic psy-trance, progressive daytime grooves, dirty electro and cool minimal.
“I love performing live, creating new tracks as well as remixing. The people around me who shower me with their love inspire me,” she says.
